Sarah’s Background
A graduate of the University of Kansas’ graphic design program, Sarah also studied draping at the renowned London College of Fashion, as well as fashion design at JCCC in Kansas. She's presented multiple collections in the annual West 18th Street Fashion Show in the Crossroads Arts District of Kansas City. An advocate of the blossoming creative scene in Kansas City, Sarah has collaborated with cirque performing arts group, Quixotic, and was commissioned to create a ballet costume for the opening of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Sarah was selected as one of five designers for the 2016-2017 inaugural Fashion Designer Professional Development Program through Rightfully Sewn. Sarah Nelsen’s couture designs can be seen at galas and red carpet events, she’s dressed musicians and performers and her work has graced the GRAMMYs red carpet.
Sarah’s background in art direction and graphic design led her to a substantial career in branding, print and interactive media while honing her skills in pattern making, draping and clothing construction. Sarah spent over 6 years working at luxury womenswear atelier, Asiatica, where she delved into the world of vintage textiles, garment production and fashion marketing. Sarah continues to develop her own design aesthetic through a thoughtful ready-to-wear collection and custom client commissions.
