I love working with clients who have a vision, and upon meeting Erin, I knew she had a singular vision for her wedding. Wearing something special that is uniquely you as one steps into the next chapter of their love story and life is so very special. It is even more special that I was able to take that journey with her.
A Modern Bride with a Vintage Look

Erin and Shawn were planning on a fall wedding with their celebration outside. She wanted a look that was beautiful, easy to wear and able to adapt to the weather. For her wedding dress consultation, she came with a color palette and silhouette in mind — something “librarian chic” she jokingly referred to. She had the idea for a fitted sleeveless dress that flowed into a circular skirt and initially wanted a contrasting shrug to wear if needed. As the design developed and fabric choices were made — a stunning green brocade flecked with metallics, I suggested a fitted collared cropped jacket modeled after a vintage style in my collection. It was the perfect tailored piece to compliment the dress. We opted to do the dress and jacket in the same fabric and the shrug in another contrast metallic brocade — the party shrug!
Erin was an absolute joy to work with and I'm so thrilled with the couture pieces we made for her. Many thanks to our mutual friend, Debra Smith, who introduced us and attended one of Erin’s final fittings.

The Process
We began with a specific silhouette in mind — however I created two muslin prototypes for Erin to try. One with a dropped waist and center darts, the other with a waist seam and french darts. Both with an invisible back zipper and the signature flouncy skirt. She opted for the waist seam version. Erin also tried on shrug and jacket options from my collection.

With the dress silhouette decided, I made pattern adjustments for fit. Once fabric was ordered and arrived I constructed the dress for the next fitting. This time in the final brocade. I opted to have the basic shape sewn without lining, hems or finishings to check the fit.

The Final Fitting
We decided on the final hem length and took in a bit more excess through the bodice. What a joy to have Erin and Debra at my studio for Erin's final fitting and chance to have some quality time with friends. Love her choice of gold slingback peep toe heels!

The Couture Pieces Completed
The final adjustments were made, lining was cut and sewn and all three pieces were finished with couture finishes. I even made a special pocket square from Erin’s dress fabric for Shawn and stitched in a tiny splash of the green brocade inside his jacket lapel.
