Couture commissions are the ultimate expression of the complexity and beauty of garment creation. Each couture piece starts as a blank canvas — the client’s ideas and imagination are supplemented with knowledge from my design expertise.
This couture gown for our lovely client Katie began with an image of Jackie O. in a beautiful strapless ball gown. From there, fabric was selected and then we began the process of creating a sample gown for the first fitting. The initial silhouette was draped on the form, marked, then digitized so that patterns could be accurately drafted. Then, a first sample was made followed by a fitting to check the fit and design and pattern revisions made to reflect those changes.
The final result is a completely customized gown crafted with couture finishings fitted for our client with her vision realized. It’s both art and science and the beauty in both the process and the final piece is what keeps these projects so energizing.
