OLIVIA FOX describes themselves as a Kansas City-based Folk/Pop trio mixing classic folk vocals and instrumentation with modern synths and beats. Take a listen to their music here: weareoliviafox.com.
Since the band’s inception, the women bonded over personal heartache and struggle and sought a name to reflect that solidarity. The women wanted to create a name that would embody a warrior spirit and appeal to all women fighting personal battles. Thus, OLIVIA FOX was born – capable, intelligent, brave women supporting others. As the band often says, “We are all OLIVIA FOX.”
I met the ladies of OLIVIA FOX — Lauren Flynn, Aubrey Callahan and Tiffany Smith during the Summer of 2018 and we instantly bonded. They asked me to style them for an upcoming photoshoot for their band's promotional materials. All the elements were there — a killer location: The Midland Theatre, a talented photographer: Chris Mullins and my metallic dresses and jumpsuit to bring that star quality to the band in such an iconic and glamorous setting.

Behind the Music
In 2016, after a decade as a solo artist, singer-songwriter Lauren Flynn desired to form new project. She dreamed of creating three-part harmonies within deeply emotive music with a fresh, modern sound. After Lauren met vocalist Aubrey Callahan, the two began working together while searching for a third vocalist. The duo soon added violinist and singer Tiffany Smith. Alongside Lauren’s long-time manager David “DJ” Lee, the group began working with producer Tyler Banks. Tyler helped craft a hybrid style incorporating programmed beats and synth pads with traditional folk melodies, harmonies, and live instrumentation.
OLIVIA FOX has built a strong following through radio-ready recordings and a polished live show that is, by turns, aching, melancholy, hopeful, and bright. With national releases to Triple A, Non-Comm, and Alternative radio formats, OVFX is receiving consistent airplay in many markets. Local NPR music critic Bill Brownlee recognized the band as "one of the most fully realized musical acts in Kansas City.” He called the group “polished” and “eminently marketable” before describing the group’s music: “As synthetic beats contrast with traditional folk harmonies, the hushed song [Play the Game] becomes a wondrous combination of tension and tranquility — as enticing as a romantic whisper.”
Needless to say I'm looking forward to more collaborations with OLIVIA FOX and in the meantime catch one of their next live shows or find them on Spotify!
